The Ironbound Community took to the streets on June 18 to honor a group of outstanding women, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Louise Shugard building at the SHEroes Block Party.
The celebration honored women throughout the community who have been influential to the continued growth and progression of the surrounding neighborhood.
The Elm Street block quickly filled with music, art, and live performances, just outside the Louise Shugard building, which is home to several groups and organizations in the Ironbound community including, the Family Success Center at 317 Elm Street.
Among those honored were Milagro Blanco, an environmental and climate justice leader; Felisa Campinos, a dedicated longtime community volunteer at SPARK; and Alice Shreiner, Director of the Ironbound Senior Citizen Center. Long time board members of the Ironbound Community Corporation, Johanna Moroch and June Kruszewski, were also honored. These women and all the other honorees have proven their dedication and commitment to the community.
