Hey music lovers, there is a new spot for jazz in the heart of Newark’s downtown district — Clement’s Place!
In partnership with the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers - Newark, Newark Celebration 350 kicked off this new monthly jazz concert series last month with the Sax Summit, featuring Leo Johnson and Anthony Nelson, in honor of the late Dr. Clement Alexander Price, Newark Historian and founder and director of the Rutgers University-Newark Institute on Ethnicity, Culture, and the Modern Experience… and passionate jazz fan.
In the spirit of honoring the great jazz tradition of Newark and celebrating the city’s 350th anniversary, the live series features music performances by local and internationally renowned artists such as Carrie Jackson and Her Jazzin’ All Stars, The Houston Person Quartet, Bobby Sanabria & Quarteto Aché, and on November 11 don’t miss a special reunion with Return To the Source with NC 350’s own, Junius Williams.
Join us at the neoclassical skyscraper, Clement’s Place, aka “Fifteen Wash,”every second Friday of the month through December 9th. Come enjoy the sultry smooth sounds of these free jazz performances, as we carry on Clement’s legacy in celebrating Newark as a destination for cultural arts.

Carrie Jackson and Her Jazzin’ All Stars

Native Newarker Carrie Jackson and Her Jazzin’ All Stars brings her signature soulful sound back to her hometown. Beginning her musical career when she was 6 years old singing in the children’s choir at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Carrie is known for her versatility, expressive voice and a natural feel for jazz & the blues— it’s sure to be a soulful evening.
Bobby Sanabria & Quarteto Aché
October 14, 6-8pm
Grammy nominated percussionist and drummer, Bobby Sanabria and his band Bobby Sanabria & Quarteto Aché bring the exciting sounds of Latin jazz right here to Newark. Bobby is a Puerto Rican drummer, whose music is rooted in the Afro-American/ Latino Jazz style and culture. The soulful Latin Jazz artist is a performance you don’t want to miss!
Return To the Source - Reunion with Junius Williams

Return to the Source reunites for an unforgettable night of exploring the African-American experience through music. RTS’s repertoire of blues, rhythm and blues, and jazz, is led by NC 350 ‘s very own Junius Williams and includes some of Newark’s preeminent musicians and artists, such as Anthony Jackson, Janet Van Kline, Wincey Terry, Jeff Motley and Jackie Jones.
The Houston Person Quartet

Join us for the distinct and expressive soul jazz sounds of Eubie Blake Jazz Award winner Houston Person and The Houston Person Quartet. With his distinctive sassy sound and his expressive style of playing, Eubie Blake Jazz Award winner Houston Person and The Houston Person Quartet are sure to close out NC 350 Live at Clement’s Place with a bang!
