
Tour of Jewish Newark

| FreeSites to be visited include: Ahavas Sholom- the only active Newark synagogue utilizing its original building built in 1922-23, B’nai Jeshurun, Newark’s first Jewish congregation founded in 1848 and Oheb Shalom, Newark’s third Jewish congregation, founded in 1860. Under restoration by Greater Newark Conservancy, portions of the building reopened in December 2015 for the first time since 1993. The tour concludes with a drive through the Weequahic neighborhood, and will include the childhood home and high school of Philip Roth. The tour will leave from the Newark Museum, where there is parking available for a fee. A lite lunch will be available.
