Laid Out the Business of Funerals is a dramatic reading staged by four women, accompanied by a vocalist, drummer and organist. The reading is performed to a background of blues, gospel and contemporary music. The first half of Laid Out focuses on the history of embalming and the history of women in funeral service in New Jersey. The second half of the play examines some of the humorous aspects of funerals and funeral service in a modern setting.
